ACCOMMODATION TYPES
HOTEL Has a minimum of 6 bedrooms which have en-suite or have private bathrooms.
B&B Accommodation in a private house for up to six paying guests.
GUEST HOUSE Guest accommodation for more than six paying guests with the owner and staff providing additional services (e.g. dinner).
FARMHOUSE B&B OR GUEST HOUSE Accommodation on a working farm.
INN Fully licensed property where the bar is open to non-residents and food available during the evenings.
RESTAURANT WITH ROOMS Maximum of 12 bedrooms
GUEST ACCOMMODATION Any property that meets the minimum entry requirement can use this general category.
STAR RATINGS HOTELS
1 STAR Friendly staff that provide an informal, competent service. Most of the rooms are en-suite and there is a breakfast area serving breakfasts daily and dinner most evenings.
2 STARS All bedrooms are en-suite or have private facilities. There is a dining area serving breakfasts and dinner most evenings.
3 STARS The staff are professional and smartly dressed. All rooms have en-suites and the restaurant and dining room is open to both residents and non-residents.
4 STARS holds an excellent standard throughout with professional, uniformed staff, well appointed public areas. There is a restaurant or dining room open to residents and non-residents and lunch is available in a designated eating area.
5 STARS exceptional luxurious accommodation with public areas. The hotel offers a great deal of luxury with a range of facilities and multilingual services. Guests are greeted at the hotel entrance and there is a high quality menu and wine list.
GUEST ACCOMMODATION
1 STAR Minimum requirements required for maintenance, hospitality, cleanliness, services and facilities. Cooked or continental breakfast serviced in an eating area or bedroom only.
2 STARS Friendly service, well maintained rooms and beds with breakfast prepared with a good level of care.
3 STARS A friendly welcome, well presented bedrooms and furniture. A choice of quality, freshly cooked breakfasts.
4 STARS A more personalised service where at least half of the bedrooms have en-suite or private bathrooms. High quality furniture and beds. Breakfast offers a greater choice where fresh ingredients are used and presented with a high level of care.
5 STARS All bedrooms have en-suite or private bathrooms and offer excellent dιcor and furnishings. High quality breakfasts including fresh local produce, specials and home-made products.
GOLD AND SILVER AWARDS
Many establishments on Bed and Breakfast Direct hold Silver and Gold awards.
Silver - this award recognises high quality in all areas of the business, with very good levels of customer care.
Gold - properties achieving a Gold award will demonstrate exceptional levels of quality, comfort, cleanliness, hospitality and attentive service.
Bed and Breakfast Direct features a number of establishments who have no stars. This is because they prefer to remain independent.
