Ye Olde Smugglers Inne, Alfriston Bed and Breakfast

A warm welcome awaits you from your new host Lisa.

Ye Olde Smugglers Inne provides a warm welcome and friendly atmosphere in its oak beamed bar and restaurant with a lovely open fire.

Ye Olde Smugglers has a remarkable history. The Inne dates back to 1358, Its history commemorates the smugglers who during the time of Stanton Collins being the owner the building was transformed into a smugglers den.

There was a time when Alfriston was inhabited by the troops of Middlesex and Hampshire Militias during the Napoleonic Wars. The solders were housed in cottages around the market square. The enabled the village to prosper. Unfortunately when the solders departed in 1815 the village was left lawless. In this time smuggling prospered.

The villagers were sympathetic to the smuggling trade and supported it in secrete, With a stash of alcoholic beverages, mostly brandy they were not telling how they came by unattainable goods.

The restaurant links to a lovely conservatory which is for hire, for small private functions we also welcome coach parties with advance notice.

Ye Olde Smugglers Inne also has a large garden area for you to enjoy on warmer days.

The Garden is also available for private functions with a Marque.
