Appletree Cottage is a traditional Sussex farmhouse situated between the historical towns of Battle, Rye and Tenterden not far from Camber Sands, the best beach for miles around. It is the perfect base to explore famous gardens, vineyards, houses and castles throughout the year. From the front gate there is easy access to national footpaths and cycling routes. Other outdoor pursuits nearby include golf, riding, fishing and water sports.
You will receive a warm, friendly welcome and, on arrival, will be able to relax and unwind in front of a log fire or on the terrace with complimentary afternoon tea and home-made cake or evening drink.
All bedrooms are decorated to a high standard with comfortable beds and fine linen with private or en-suite bathrooms. Facilities in the bedrooms include hairdryer, radio, hostess tray with selection of teas, coffee, hot chocolate, fresh milk and biscuits. Guests have the use of a comfortable, paneled sitting room with television, an open log fire, comfortable chairs and grand piano, which is waiting to be played!
You will be treated to a delicious breakfast, which includes our own apple juice and free-range eggs, local honey and prize winning sausages and bacon.
The property sits in an attractive, peaceful, hilltop position with superb views over farmland. There is an extensive garden, a field, orchard and ancient woodland which guests are welcome to explore.
After spending many years living and working abroad, Jane and Hugh are experienced hosts and enjoy meeting and welcoming guests from a wide variety of backgrounds and countries. They are both keen gardeners and historians and have a wealth of knowledge of the local environment and are happy to provide maps and guidebooks to borrow or give any other advice to enable you to enjoy your days to the full.

The nearest pub is The Cross Inn at Staplecross where you can sample the local atmosphere and enjoy a delicious meal. There is an extensive choice of other pubs and restaurants in the area, including The White Dog in Ewhurst Green and The George at Roberstbridge, and the owners are happy to book a table for you in advance.
Appletree Cottage is near several famous gardens, including Great Dixter, Sissinghurst and Pashley Manor. There are several National Trust properties within a short distance, the nearest being the 14th century fairytale castle of Bodiam Castle, complete with drawbridge and moat. From Bodiam you can also enjoy a magical ride on the Kent & Sussex steam railway through stunning scenery of the High Weald.
Appletree Cottage is just a few miles away from the historic market towns of Battle, Rye and Tenterden, as well as being near to the coast. It is just over an hour from London by train, and from the Channel Tunnel and the port of Dover.
