Lodge House is a comfortable B&B set in the beautiful Blackdown Hills in Somerset, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
Your hosts are Neil and Kathy Arnold who will assure you of a warm welcome. Neil retired early from his job as an aerospace industry project manager and Kathy is a complementary therapist and can offer Therapeutic Break packages (see website).
The three guest bedrooms include the Iris Room, the Lilac Room and the Blue Room. The “Iris Room” is a spacious, first floor, south-facing bedroom furnished with a mixture of antique and contemporary pieces with views over the countryside. It features a comfortable king-sized bed, full sized wardrobe, rocking chair, digital Freeview colour TV, hairdryer, alarm clock and complimentary tea/coffee making facilities.
Immediately adjacent to the “Iris Room” and the only other room on that floor, is the private bathroom. This has been completely refurbished with a high spec power shower. Complimentary organic toiletries (in large bottles) are provided.
The Lilac Room is a first floor south facing room in our section of the house renovated in May 2015. Everything is new apart from the antique furniture and pictures. Immediately adjacent, and the only other room on that floor, is the private shower room. This has been furnished with a high spec Mira power shower. Complimentary organic toiletries (in large bottles) are provided.
The Blue Room is a second floor south facing room in our section of the house renovated in May 2015. Everything is new apart from the antique furniture and pictures. The Blue Room features a superb King Size bed with Sealy back care mattress. Ensuite is the private shower wet room. Please note due to the beams this shower has restricted head room and probably is not suitable for anyone over 6 foot tall. The shower is a high spec Mira power shower. Complimentary organic toiletries (in large bottles) are provided.
Both the Lilac Room and Blue Room are furnished with Samsung Smart Internet Colour TVs, USB charging points, Hairdryers, Alarm clocks and complimentary tea/ coffee making facilities.
Breakfast is served between 8.00am and 9.30pm in our south facing dining room, overlooking the front garden, (other times by request). Food is sourced using local fresh ingredients and organic where possible with the principle of low food miles very much in mind. Eggs are from the free-range chickens, the honey is from the bees and the jam is homemade from fruit bushes and trees when available. Sausages and bacon are sourced from local Somerset farms.
If walking, cycling or bird watching is your chosen recreation then the Blackdown Hills is an ideal spot for a short break. There are leaflets on circular walks in and around Chard, Hemyock, Stockland and the northeastern Blackdown Hills in the visitor information folder.
Lodge House is very close to Neroche forest where you can walk or cycle the herepaths. There is even an audiovisual digital trail guide to the Staple Fitzpaine herepath that is available to hire.
Places to visit include Killerton House, Barrington Court, Tintinhull Gardens, Montecute House, and Lytes Cary Manor, Forde Abbey Gardens, Ferne Animal Sanctuary, Otterford Lakes, Hestercombe Gardens, Cricket St Thomas Lakes and Gardens, Burrow Farm Gardens, Cothay Manor Gardens to name just a few !
