Chris and Yolanda welcome you to the White Lion Inn a family run public house set in beautiful countryside in the village of Whissendine, in the county of Rutland.

Winners of the “East Midlands in Bloom” competition 2017. This traditional inn has an Award Winning Garden, restaurant, bar and function room offering excellent accommodation with traditional pub food. There is also a Petanque Court/Children’s Play Area, Table Tennis and ample car parking. Pets are allowed in the bar area only.

There are eight centrally heated en-suite rooms comprising of four doubles, a single, a twin, a family (which sleeps two adults and two children) and a superior which can sleep two. All are tastefully decorated and equipped with a television, tea and coffee making facilities, Wi-Fi Internet access and hairdryer. Children are welcome and a cot and high chair can be provided upon request.

The fully licensed bar has a fine selection of fine wines and real Ales including two log fires and comfy seating areas.

There are English breakfast, lunch, evening and gluten intolerance menus. All food is made from locally sourced ingredients whenever possible with a vegetarian options available. Special dietary requests can be catered for with prior notice.

The White Lion Inn can cater for functions including small weddings, anniversaries, parties and wakes.

LOCAL INFORMATION
Places of interest include Whissendine windmill, built in the early 1800’s and said to be the second tallest windmill in Great Britain.

Nearby to Whissendine is the village of Cottesmore where you will find the Rutland Railway Museum. The museum tells the story of railways in industry especially local ironstone quarrying.

Rutland Water is England’s largest man-made lake and offers excellent fishing, bird watching, walking, horse riding, cycling sailing and windsurfing. It also hosts The International Birdwatching Fair every August.

There is also a Butterfly Farm and Aquatic Centre nearby in Empingham and the fantastic Falconry Centre at Cottesmore.

Other visitor attractions in the area include Rockingham Castle and Burghley House.
