Yorkshire Dales National Park Tourist Information

Yorkshire Dales National Park has outstanding scenery; much of the landscape here is silver grey limestone with lush green meadows and heather-clad moors. It’s a fantastic place for outdoor activities and peaceful relaxation as well as being home to an abundance of wildlife.

The Yorkshire Dales has many welcoming guesthouses, bed and breakfasts, farm houses and country hotels nestled in remote village, busy market towns providing good food, comfortable surroundings and a warm Yorkshire hospitality.

The Northern Dales are home to Richmonshire, Wensleydale, Coverdale, Bishopdale, Swaledale and Arkengarthdale. In the West of the Dales you will find Settle, Ribblesdale, the Three Peaks, Ingleton and Ingleborough. In the Southern Dales you will find Upper Wharfedale, Littondale, Grassington, Skipton and Malham and in the East of the Dales you will find Masham, Nidderdale and Harrogate.

There are a wide variety of attractions to suit all tastes and ages, charming tearooms and quaint country pubs, many serving locally produced food and ale. The Western Dales are home to the Dent Brewery and the well-known Black Sheep and Theakston’s Breweries can be found in the Eastern Dales.

There are thousands of people visiting the Yorkshire Dales every year. It is also home to several television series including those of Emmerdale, Heartbeat, Last of the Summer Wine and All Creatures Great and Small.

For recreation the Dales have some of the best walking, horse riding, mountain biking and cycling terrain in the country. The Dales are famous for its long distance footpath the Pennine Way which passes through the Yorkshire Dales as does the Dales Way footpath. There is also the popular Pennine Bridleway and several cycle paths.

The Yorkshire Dales has plenty of attractions whatever your interests. From historic castles, to museums, to ancient ruins and abbeys. Why not take a trip on the Settle to Carlise Railway and witness breath taking scenery. Or visit the Dales Countryside Museum. The Yorkshire Dales is also home to a World Heritage Site the Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal Water Garden.
